Do you have a better version of Image:Deys plaque.jpg?
[edit]
Thank you for your submission of Image:Deys plaque.jpg. While all submissions are useful, do you think you might be able to supply a better quality version of the same, or similar, content? In many cases, the largest and highest resolution possible is the most useful version to have available. (MediaWiki has automatic resizing functionality, so there is no need for multiple versions of the same image at different sizes, users can select any size and the software will generate and cache the needed resolution on the fly.)
If you can supply the same exact image as Image:Deys plaque.jpg at a larger resolution (or media at a higher bitrate, etc.), please just upload it over the original, users will get the new higher quality version with no further effort on your part. If on the other hand, the content is only similar, it is best to select a new image name, as there may be uses already where some aspect of the existing media was key to the usage. In the latter case, if you can provide a crosslink reference to the new image in the older one and vice versa, that will be extremely helpful.
Again, thank you very much for your contribution, it is appreciated. Siebrand 14:35, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

File tagging File:Ottawa-Nationals-Program.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Ottawa-Nationals-Program.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Ottawa-Nationals-Program.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:36, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Hello. While it is fantastic that you are taking time to update neighbourhood maps where needed, I just have a couple of minor comments: 1) If your changes to the map consist of more than minor tweaks or correcting obvious/undisputed errors, you should save the new map as an entirely new file, rather than replacing the old one. There are many reasons why we may want to have both the original map and your updated version on the Commons. 2) There is no such thing as "official" or "city-defined" neighbourhood boundaries in Toronto. While the City website does contain neighbourhood mapping, it has never been endorsed by Council nor has it ever been designated as official. In fact, the text that accompanies the city's maps makes clear that they are not authoritative. Neighbourhood boundaries are the product of convention and consensus, and in some cases they are not clearly defined. While the City's neighbourhood information on its website is useful, and worth mentioning in Wikipedia articles, it is not definitive, and we need to be very careful about not mischaracterizing it. In the particular case of Moss Park, I suspect that the City's description of the neighbourhood pertains more to factors associated with social program service delivery than it does to what people commonly think of as being Moss Park. Hope that helps. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 15:18, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
I agree that I should have uploaded another map image. The rest I disagree. If the City publishes a map, and it is discussed in the article, it should not be ignored in the illustration. Alaney2k (talk) 17:54, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry if I was not clear, but I never said ignore it (in fact, I said it is useful information), nor did I ever suggest that I should tell you what to illustrate in your map. It's your map, so you should decide exactly what you want to include in it (whether it is used in the Wikipedia article is a separate discussion to be had over there). I just warned that one should be careful not to mischaracterize the City mapping on its website (this is an issue for all neighbourhoods, not just Moss Park). At the end of the day, you will use your discretion as to what you believe should be included in your map, but I have to tell you that while I would have no objection to the Wikipedia article using mapping that shows the City iteration of Moss Park (assuming it is properly described in the article), I would have problems with using a map that gave the misleading impression that the City has officially defined the neighbourhood boundaries. It really comes down to an issue of how to describe the information, not whether it should be included. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 19:52, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
