Accidental upload of multiple files with same name

Another very annoying error. I accidentally uploaded 2 files, but put the same name for both. I did not get any error message at all, the wizard just told me they had uploaded successfully - and then wouldn't let me reupload the image with a new name because "it had already been uploaded onto the wiki" - even though it is completely unavailable. I think that's it for me, back to the old form for good (or at least until I calm down!). Nice idea and fine if you're only uploading one image at a time, but the amount of problems I get when uploading multiple images just don't make it worthwhile. It will prompt you in the final step that one of the files needs to be renamed. Once you do this, if you click "Retry failed uploads", it should successfully transfer the remaining file. If you click "Continue anyway", it'll leave you with only one of the files uploaded.
This is somewhat bad UX, as there are hardly any circumstances under which you would not want to complete the upload. Besides, it should catch the duplicate title in the previous step. However, it should never leave you with a file that's impossible to upload. Is it possible that you were trying to re-upload the file that's already there?
I just tested in Firefox 11 and I can easily see how you might have ended up without the file you renamed (by clicking "Continue anyway" instead of "Retry failed uploads"), but I can't reproduce any issue re-uploading a missing file.--Eloquence (talk) 02:49, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Geocoding

Geocoding in the Upload Wizard is very hard. The Wikimedia tools generate the full template code, and the wizard requires to extract the coordinates manually, recalculate them to the proper format and put in the form. There should be a way to paste just the template code or make the geocoding tools aware of the Upload Wizard form structure. Zyxist (talk) 10:52, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Je viens de perdre 2 heures de travail (chargement de plus de 20 photos, avec recherche des categ, ajout de commentaires) parce que ce p.... de logiciel a planté à la dernière étape. Depuis le temps que cette version est en place, ne pourrait on pas faire en sorte que les principaux bugs soient résolus ? I tried to upload a file and got a message that there was some sort
of API error. So I went back to try to upload it again, and as long as
I seemed to understand how to do this now, I uploaded 3 more files
at the same time. But the first file was apparently there, and I couldn't delete the second time that I tried to upload it. So I renamed it "second try", figuring I'll try to delete the duplicat later, but now it seems to be stuck on the "Describe" page, complaining that it already
has that image, and not letting me do anything to delete it, or to move forward to the "Use" phase for the other 3 files.

The file uppload tool is useful, but there is room for improvements.
1) The tool should insist that each file belongs to at least one category, since it is mandatory in wikimedia commons that it does.
2) It would be nice if one could navigate though existing categories to find the correct one. Doing it in hotcat is not as easy as could be.
3) It would be very nice if one could give a coordinate by locating the photo location on a map.

I just fixed this bug on my own new install by setting the permissions of the images/archives directory to 777. It didn't make sense that it was only 755. Sorry, never posted comment before just thought you'd like to know. 03:35, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

Guten Tag
Bin am verzweifeln, versuche ein Bild raufzuladen, Logo von der Firma Schaffner. Es kommt immer wieder die Meldung, dass das Bild schon einmal hochgeladen wurde, jedoch hab ich keinen Zugriff (oder weiss es nicht wie handhaben) das Logo in den Text raufzuladen.
Kann mir bitte irgendjemand helfen?

I've uploaded more than 20 photos now and I have a big problem with uploading photos with high quality. At the start I can see that "1 minute remaining" or maybe less, but in fact it takes 10-15 minutes.
At the start Wizard uploads 50% of the photo and then makes nothing. After som minutes it can upload yet 10-20%. And so on, and so on. Very I see that file is not uploading at all eventually stopped on 50%.

Das eingeben der Kategorie kann schnell übersehen werden, da man erst auf den "Link" klicken muss um das dieses Option dann zu sehen. New copy function in multi file uploads
I just tested with copying 3 fields: categories, dates and desciptions and it worked great, thanks! It would even be better if you could *create* a category with the name of the title of the first file, as a subcat of the first category you choose on the first file. Dear Upload Wizard Team,
as an active member of the GLAM community and photographer, using the non-customisable Upload Wizard is not a decent way to upload images. I'd appreciate a way to add image descriptions like in the old upload form: Wikisyntax only. The huge advantage for GLAM and people using non-standard templates would be an easy approach on uploading their content with the templates they want. I'm well aware of possibility to add additional information in the current Upload Wizard. Sadly this is not sufficient and won't enable me to use the Artwork Template or the Camera Info Template in a proper way. Would be great if you could reconsider adding an "advanced mode" that uses just one single text field to enter image descriptions. GLAMs exporting metadata would appreciate it as well. Thank you.

He creado una imagen sin copiarla, etc. (Es una sugerencia para una 'bandera para la Tierra'). Se sube correctamente y demás, pero al llegar al paso "describir", me dice:
Advertencia desconocida: exists-normalized junto a la imagen en 'proceso' y abajo "ninguna subida tuvo éxito. Reintentar subidas fallidas". Pero no logro que la acepte.
¿Cuál es el problema o qué puedo hacer?
A veces sube la imagen y dice que no tuvo éxito, cuando sí, la subió bien - lo mejor es revisar tu lista de seguimiento para ver si la subió o no. Recibo este error con casi todas mis imagenes. Simon Burchell (talk) 22:18, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Forward-Button

Started uploading 22 pictures (Fleshgood Apocalypse batch). All the pics showed as uploaded 'okay' and showed their thumbnails. The time progress bar disappeared and the text with '22 of 22 files uploaded' showed up. But the general success text and the button for moving forward to the licence selection didn't get visible. Uploaded another batch just before with was working fine.
To reach the upload form for the second batch I used the button "upload more files" and not the "Upload files" menu item as I normally do. I think that was the only thing I did different this time but doesn't need to be the reason. Cecil (talk) 18:57, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

The same pictures are uploaded by User:Serein without any problem.
UploadCampaigns : default license for own work in UploadCampaign does not work

I've uploaded several images in the last couple of weeks. Each time I've added categories via the upload wizard, and each time the images have appeared with the 'uncategorized' tag and I've had to re-add the categories with a subsequent edit.

All but first file reported empty, last one uploaded

After beginning upload all files except the first are reported empty. Upload time hints all files are uploaded. I continue and describe the one file. Must accustom myself to the fact that hitting enter twice is no longer necessary, but it's a good change. Too bad the cat picker is still case sensitive unlike most other software that deals with categories. That's the biggest remaining annoyance for me, and not very big. Some time ago, the sequence of files became less scrambled, so the first file in a batch generally doesn't end up last. Good again. And automatically showing the thumbnail is also pleasant. When entering a new category you receive a message "category will be created" but have no means to create the category. In the older version the category was saved and by clicking on it, you was able to create the new category. IMHO the older solution was better. Fridolin freudenfett (talk) 20:45, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
The older version was confusing in that, if you forgot to "Save" a category, it was not added to the file at all. This caused a lot of folks to accidentally not add their categories. The "Save" dialog was also very in-your-face. However, the old version showed a link to the category, and this one does not. Showing a visible link would enable you to easily create a Category: page, as well as check the files in an existing category you add. Il semble y avoir un dysfonctionnement majeur dans l'assistant depuis plusieurs jours : aucune image ne se charge plus.

Je viens de télécharger, avec succès, 7 photos et je reçois le message "3 erreurs sont présentes dans les formulaires ci-dessus. Corrigez les erreurs, et essayez d’importer à nouveau." Rien ne m'indique quelles sont ces erreurs. Je ne peux rien faire d'autre que tout recommencer. Je vais télécharger les photos une à une, ça me prendra 5 fois plus de temps.... Où est le progrès?

Try again in Safari - we just deployed a fix. As for IE, we know about an IE7 issue where a fix still needs to be deployed. We're getting sporadic reports by IE8 users as well, but I've not been able to reproduce the issue(s) yet with any IE8 version I've tested with, so if anyone can actually see a specific JavaScript issue reported by IE8, that would be helpful.--Eloquence (talk)
Upload Wizard is not uploading

I've attempted to upload two low-res images, but the uploading never completes. The wheel continues to spin and the message says "Uploading..." Alibasye (talk) 22:33, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
It should work now (although multi-file select will not until we find a way to reliably implement it with Safari -- unfortunately Apple isn't implementing the whole standard, which is causing some of these inconsistencies).--Eloquence (talk) 04:38, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
