Description
English: Phosphorus, present in our DNA and cell membranes, is an essential element for life. But how it arrived on the early Earth is something of a mystery. Astronomers have now traced the journey of phosphorus from star-forming regions to comets using the combined powers of ALMA and the European Space Agency’s probe Rosetta.

The video is available in 4K UHD.

The ESOcast Light is a series of short videos bringing you the wonders of the Universe in bite-sized pieces. The ESOcast Light episodes will not be replacing the standard, longer ESOcasts, but complement them with current astronomy news and images in ESO press releases.

Toutefois, les modalités de son arrivée sur la Terre primitive demeurent inconnues. Les astronomes sont parvenus à retracer le parcours du phosphore depuis les régions de formation stellaire jusqu’aux comètes en combinant les données acquises par le réseau ALMA et la sonde Rosetta de l’Agence Spatiale Européenne.
