Description |
English: "Photo 18.1 Making fiber in Teri Ku." A local young man in a white Western shirt with a string of beads, is holding a cord with green and lilac colored hibiscus fringes to adorn a mask. In the background a large shiny Chinese motorcycle. "The most important thing about a Dogon mask are the fibers, red fibers made from hibiscus: every red fiber costume is a mask. A stick with red fibers around it is a mask in itself. Those red fibers are clearly mentioned in the myth of the origin of the mask" (book p. 282.) |
