Image title | Yves Sirois est diplômé d’un doctorat de physique de l’Université McGill au Canada.
Il est directeur de recherche CNRS au Laboratoire Leprince Ringuet (LLR, École polytechnique / CNRS), responsable France de la collaboration internationale CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) et président de la section « Physique des hautes énergies » de la Société Européenne de Physique. Depuis le début de sa carrière, Yves Sirois s’intéresse aux interactions fondamentales entre particules élémentaires. Il développe d’abord ses recherches au Canada sur les leptons, particules insensibles à l’interaction forte, puis auprès de grands accélérateurs de particules comme HERA en Allemagne, ou le LHC du CERN en Suisse. En 2012, Yves Sirois et son équipe au LLR et au CERN découvrent le « boson de Higgs », qui explique la masse des particules quantiques. Depuis, il s’attache à mesurer les propriétés de ce boson et à mettre en évidence son couplage aux leptons. Yves Sirois a reçu, avec le CMS, le Prix « Physique des hautes énergies et des particules » de la Société Européenne de Physique en 2013, et à titre individuel, la Médaille d’argent du CNRS en 2014 et l’Insigne du mérite de la Faculté des arts et sciences de l’Université de Montréal en 2015 |
