Summary[edit]
DescriptionHardenburgamazonindians.jpeg |
English: A photo of enslaved Amazon Indians during the rubber boom of the early 1900's. This photo is included in the 1912 book "The Putumayo, the devil's paradise; travels in the Peruvian Amazon region and an account of the atrocities committed upon the Indians therein". This was an early and important work that documented the atrocities committed by rubber baron Julio César Arana’s Peruvian Amazon Company. Much of the profit from rubber was gained through the exploitation and abuse of Indigenous peoples in the Amazon. This photo was made by Walter Hardenberg [sic]. |
